JOE DUMESNY MEMORIAL
This year 2022 will see the running of the 13th year of the RUBY VALE STABLES JOE DUMESNY MEMORIAL.
The Parkes Harness Racing Club have held this 3YO race annually since 2010 to honour the memory of one of Parkes' leading owners, trainers, and drivers in Joe Dumesny who commenced his career from his family's Ruby Vale Stud of Alectown West before relocating to a training facility in Coronation Avenue, Parkes.
Joe trained many winners on the Western Districts race circuit including the very good horses Justuwait, Lotta Kidd, First Look, and Country Kidd. All of which were owned by the Dumesny family.
Joe also bred the outstanding racemares Dixie Rhythm and Whataway which he leased to the Brown family of Forbes.
David Harris, Toby McCormick, Darcy Davis, Ken McConnell, and Stuart Elliot were some of the Parkes trainers to have trained horses bred by, and leased from Joe.
The inaugural running of the JOE DUMESNY MEMORIAL was won by the Dumesny Family's STANLEY VALE and carried Joe's colours of brown and green stripes for trainer/driver John O'Shea.
Many of the leading Western Districts trainers/drivers have won the race including the Turnbull, Hurst, Hoy, and Davis families.
In 2014, Ray Walker of Temora became the first owner/trainer/driver to have won the event with GLENBURN ANNA.
Steve Turnbull's AWESOME BELMER (2012) has been best performed horse to win the vent. With a record of 16 wins, a 1:54.5 winning time, and $174,094 in prizemoney.
The race is sponsored by Joe's nephew Bruce Dumesny who took over his stables after Joe's death. Uniquely the race offers cash prizes (on top of the normal race prizemoney) to the winner's owner, trainer, and driver, plus an inscribed rug for the winning horse.
